The Islet Society 2019 meeting will take place at the Medical faculty, University of Maribor, on September 5.- 6. The meeting aims to critically evaluate islet research in the last half a century and discuss how modern molecular, physiological, and computational approaches can help us understand complex interactions of endocrine cells in metabolic health and disease.
In addition to invited talks, posters will be first presented in a two-slide manner in front of a general audience and later during dedicated poster sessions to capture the diverse landscape of islet research.
The number ofparticipants will be limited. The deadline for abstract submission is August 26th,and for fee payment August 31st, 2019.
Diabetes today is bigger than ever and if it is not soon dammed up, it will run out of control. Societies like ours must create opportunities to reflect on the ways we chose to take in the past and discuss the ones that could deliver more and better diagnostics and therapies in the future. The Islet Society meeting 2019 in Maribor will be about collectives of heterogeneous hormone secreting. Molecular approaches keep fishing out interesting correlations between molecular targets and cell dysfunction in disease, but the ever increasing number of these targets exceed anything scientists could realistically handle within a single comprehensible story. Not to mention medical professionals or patients. Let us take the challenge to expand our horizon beyond single cells, single targets, and diabetes as a mostly terminal disease framework. During Islet Society 2019 meeting in Maribor we will address the following 7 topics with the help of the confirmed invited speakers.
